Kilbreda Clothes Swap

Recently the College held the first ever ‘Kilbreda Clothes Swap’. This project, driven by our Student Leaders, stemmed from the increasing issues around ‘Fast Fashion’. “Every ten minutes, Australians dump 15 tonnes of clothing and fabric waste, which adds up to 800,000 tonnes per person every year!” The idea, which gained a strong amount of interest, saw students bring in clothing to donate, which was then swapped for tokens that were used to ‘buy’ other items. There was a fabulous range of clothing donated including dresses, jeans, jumpers and tops. Some students tried on the clothes and many of them had lots of fun doing that! The items that were not swapped will now be donated to Vinnies Victoria.

Happy Box

A ‘Happy Box’ is a collection of toiletries and beauty products put together with care and sent to an Indigenous woman in a remote community. It may include essential items such as shampoo, soap, deodorant, pads, tampons and toothpaste or luxury self-care items such as make up, body scrub, face masks, journals, candles and hair accessories.

Our College will be supporting ‘Happy Boxes’ by asking each Homeroom in Years 10 to 12 to create a personalised tote bag to send to remote Indigenous communities.

Have a look at the checklist for your Homeroom and start bringing items in!

We would love to have our happiness packages ready to send off by Friday 9 September.
