Building Bridges Community Day

Recently, Year 11 students from our College together with students from Killester, Nazareth and Mazenod met at Shoreham Foreshore Reserve for the final gathering of the year before their presentation night. The focus of the day was cultural awareness and sustainability. Led by Adam and Shaun, the students participated in an art activity using recycled materials and Indigenous symbols. They then ambled through the native bushland tasting and smelling plants used for bush tucker and medicine. After lunch, the gardening gloves were put on to weed out introduced plant species to allow the native grasses to grow for the local wallaby population. The day ended with a well-explained smoking ceremony held on the beach.

It was such a lovely way to spend the final day together. The students have formed close bonds through their involvement in the program and were able to chat and have a laugh whilst reflecting on their overall experience.
