Transformative Lent

A Season of Renewed Faith, Reflection, and Compassion

As we immerse ourselves in the sacred season of Lent, a time of profound personal and communal change of heart, let us pause and reflect on our receptivity to God’s call. We often proclaim our availability to God, but are we truly attuned and responsive when He calls us? The Transfiguration narrative beautifully illustrates God’s unwavering love for us, with Jesus embodying the fruit of that divine love in our midst.

Throughout this Lenten season, our collective focus is on fostering simple lifestyle changes and championing the causes of social and environmental justice. Our objective is to respond with love and hope, not merely for the present but with a forward-looking perspective that considers the wellbeing of all future generations.

Lent serves as a meaningful platform to inaugurate Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion campaign for 2024. Under the theme ‘For all future generations’, this campaign challenges us to embody compassion in our actions, recognising that the choices we make today contribute to shaping a better tomorrow. We encourage each Homeroom to actively participate in fundraising efforts to support this impactful initiative.

As we continue our Lenten journey toward the profound celebration of the Triduum, let us embrace the challenge to transcend our comfort zones and strive for the highest ideals in our faith journey. Let the wisdom of Pope Francis guide our Lenten fasting, transforming our hearts in the process:

– Fast from hurting words and say kind words.
– Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude.
– Fast from anger and be filled with patience.
– Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope.
– Fast from worries and trust in God.
– Fast from complaints and contemplate simplicity.
– Fast from pressures and be prayerful.
– Fast from bitterness and fill your hearts with joy.
– Fast from selfishness and be compassionate to others.
– Fast from grudges and be reconciled.
– Fast from words and be silent so you can listen!

May this Lent be a season of joy and anticipation as we prepare to immerse ourselves in the fullness of God’s grace and love at Easter. Let us find moments of stillness in the presence of God, reflecting on Pope Francis’s invitation to fast from negativity and embrace positive changes in our lives.

Wishing all members of the Kilbreda College community many blessings during this transformative Lenten season.
