The Importance of Feedback

It is pertinent to reflect on feedback as we approach the last week of term and the Learning Progress Meetings. This a time that staff can give feedback to parents and students. This feedback is essential to moving the learning forward for students so they can plan, monitor and evaluate their own learning regularly. These discussions and partnership with both parents and students assist staff to work towards the goal of growth and continuous improvement for their students.

‘Feedback should cause thinking. It should be focused; it should relate to the learning goals that have been shared with the students. Indeed, the whole purpose of feedback should be to increase the extent to which students are owners of their own learning’.

Dylan Wiliam – Emeritus Professor of Educational Assessment, UCL

A reminder that an Asynchronous Learning Day will take place on Friday 4 April. Please note that on this day teaching staff will be involved with the Learning Progress Meetings and there will be no face-to-face classes taking place at the College.

It has been a wonderful term, with so many opportunities both in the classroom and beyond. As we move into our last week of Term 1, and the holidays approach, I wish everyone a wonderful, restful Easter break.

‘May the spirit and light of Easter morning bless us all, watch over us and protect us on our journey, open us from the darkness into the light of peace and hope and transfiguration.’   John O’Donohue
