Student Reflection: Japanese Cultural Excursion

On 20 February, students from Years 10, 11 and 12 studying Japanese took part in an exciting cultural excursion to the city. We visited the National Gallery of Victoria to explore the Vivienne Westwood and Rei Kawakubo exhibition featuring Japanese art and design, giving us the opportunity to experience aspects of Japanese culture beyond the classroom. Seeing traditional and contemporary works helped deepen our understanding of the cultural ideas we learn about in class.

After the Gallery visit, we visited Daiso, a popular Japanese variety store. Everyone enjoyed browsing through a wide range of authentic Japanese products, from stationery and snacks to everyday household items. The excursion gave students from different year levels the chance to spend time together, strengthening friendships and bonding over our shared interests in Japanese language and culture. We took photobooth pictures with our classmates and made fun memories by taking some with our teachers too. The day was a memorable experience that brought our learning to life while building a stronger sense of community within the Japanese program.
