Year 8 French and Italian

Over the last few lessons in Year 8 French and Italian classes, students worked in small groups to create short foreign language films. Italian classes completed this as part of a unit learning how to order food in a restaurant, whilst the French classes were learning how to ask and give directions while travelling.

Groups wrote their scripts in their studied language, collected props and costumes, rehearsed their lines and edited their films with subtitles. During filming, classes used the green screen to edit themselves in the streets of Paris and restaurants of Rome.

The level of creativity throughout the task was tremendous, with storylines based on pickpockets, MasterChef competitions and a jewellery heist at the Louvre, to name a few.

Year 12 Language Students Explore Inspiring Italian and French Cinema

As part of the Unit 3 “Movie Study”, our Year 12 Italian and French students are engaging with a selection of uplifting and thought-provoking films that highlight compassion, and personal growth during Headstart.

These feel-good stories also reflect a number of values central to our Catholic tradition, including dignity, hope, generosity and the transformative power of human connection.

This term, Italian students are viewing a warm and humorous film that follows the journey of a successful but stubborn doctor whose son decides to become a priest.

French students are studying two powerful films: Tenor, a contemporary story about a young man from the suburbs whose unexpected gift for opera leads him to reimagine what is possible for his future, and The Intouchables, the much-loved classic portraying the unlikely friendship between a wealthy quadriplegic man and his energetic caregiver.

To support staff engagement with the languages program, all three films are available to teachers and staff for free on ClickView (with subtitles). We encourage everyone to take the opportunity to enjoy these uplifting stories and gain insight into the cultural experiences our senior students are exploring in class.
