Humanities
It’s been an exciting term for all things Humanities! Last week our Year 8 students took part in an immersive Medieval Day incursion, hosted by Kryal Castle. Throughout the day, students rotated through a variety of 30-minute hands-on workshops run by expert instructors, each designed to bring medieval history to life. These engaging sessions included an apothecary workshop exploring medieval medicine, a leatherwork activity where students tried traditional crafting techniques, and a re-enactment of the Battle of Hastings where students stepped into one of history’s most significant battles. A particular highlight for many was the opportunity to actively participate in the battle re-enactment, taking on the roles of the Anglo Saxons and Normans and gaining a deeper appreciation of the tactics and drama of medieval warfare.
Students also took part in medieval games to learn about period pastimes, explored weaponry and knightly gear in the arms and armour session, and enjoyed the traditions of medieval dance. Additional workshops included calligraphy, where students practised the art of medieval writing, and a crime and punishment talk that delved into the justice system of the time. The day was a memorable and enriching experience that allowed students to deepen their understanding of medieval life through interactive and engaging learning. We can’t wait for next year!
