Humanities

This semester, students had the valuable opportunity to visit the Holocaust Museum, Immigration Museum, and the Shrine of Remembrance as part of their History studies. These excursions provided powerful and immersive learning experiences that deepened their understanding of key historical themes such as persecution, migration, identity and remembrance. By engaging with real stories, artifacts and memorial spaces, students developed a stronger emotional and intellectual connection to the past. Many reflected thoughtfully on the importance of empathy, resilience and the impact of history on shaping our present.

Student Reflection

This week the Year 9s went on an excursion to visit the Shrine of Remembrance in the city. We are learning about World War 1 so this was a great chance to broaden our understanding of the topic. It was interesting to learn about the soldiers and the conditions they had to endure. We learnt about how the Shrine was made, and how it was designed by people who actually fought in the war. We also saw a refurbished row boat that was used by the soldiers when landing on Gallipoli. It was so much fun getting to spend the afternoon in the city with our classmates, and we can’t wait to further discuss our knowledge in class.
