Health and PE Highlights

As always, there has been a lot happening in our Health and Physical Education classes. At publication, our Year 12 Physical Education, VET Sport and Recreation and Health and Human Development students have all completed exams. We wish them all the best in their future endeavours.

In previous weeks our Year 9 Health classes had their incursion workshop with Elephant Ed. Their focus this term was on sex education and healthy relationships, with a workshop topic on Sexual Relationships and Consent. Elephant Ed delivers engaging sex education workshops that are age-appropriate, evidence-based and aim to empower our young people to make informed, positive and safe decisions about sexuality, relationships and growing up.

We have received some great messages of feedback from the students about the incursion:

  • ‘I learnt more about how to be safe in a relationship.’
  • ‘Communication is key.’
  • ‘Yes means yes has replaced no means no.’
  • ‘It was really fun.’

Our Year 10 PE classes have been enjoying a range of activities and sessions run by Proactivity. These programs offer a range of activities such as Boxercise, Aerobics and Yoga, just in time to calm them before exams.

Our Year 7 PE classes have been doing Bike Education classes. Students have been taking part in learning how to ride the bike, adjust the bike to suit them and be able to ride comfortably, the appropriate safety equipment to wear, the road rules and how to ride in a group.

Year 9 Fit For Life

Over the last six weeks the students have participated in a variety of physical activities under the theme ‘Experiences in Physical Activity’.

People participate in physical activity for a variety of reasons, and we have tried to show the students that there are lots of activities out there to enjoy and try for a variety of outcomes.

The experiences included: health & fitness; cathartic; vertiginous; competition; physical recreation; aesthetic and social.

The students did a variety of activities at school including golf, boxing, badminton and korfball. They also visited Club Lime gym for some Body Balance classes. There was also a visit to the Melbourne Cable Park to participate in the Urban High Ropes course. We encourage active participation “outside of school hours” where the students record the activities they participate in such as walking to the beach, playing netball, dancing and bike riding.

Still to Come…

On Monday 1 December the Year 8 PE classes will be heading down to Mentone Lifesaving club for six sessions of lifesaving skills which are vitally important to our students, given our physical environment.
