Health and Physical Education

It has been a wonderful start to the year. We have welcomed our new AFL trainee, Campbell Bedford. Campbell brings with him experience as a junior athletics coach and a passion for encouraging participation in physical activity.

This year holds so many opportunities as we get some exciting activities underway.

With all of the excursions taking place, I want to remind parents of the difference between consent and participation. If a student is unable to participate in an excursion for whatever reason, as with any PE lesson we would ask you to simply issue them with a note or contact their teacher directly. Consent should still be given in that circumstance so that the student can attend the venue and continue to be supervised by their class teacher. Students not given consent cause difficulties regarding supervision.

Year 9 Electives

Our Year 9 Duke of Edinburgh and Fit For Life elective classes are preparing for some fun adventures over this term. Our Fit For Life class will be focussing on different experiences of physical activity, which includes doing a Body Balance session, some boxing, as well as an excursion to the Melbourne Cable Park to walk through the High Ropes course. They will also be heading off to the gym for a few fitness classes.

Our Duke of Edinburgh class will head off to an overnight practice hike at Phillip Island. This activity is tailored to prepare students with the bush craft skills required for their Adventurous Journey camp to Wilson’s Promontory at the end of the year.

Year 10 Physical Education

The Year 10 Physical Education classes will make the most of the warm weather. Being so close to the beach, we will hold a few of their classes down at both Mentone and Mordialloc Beach doing beach volleyball and other fun beach activities. We hope this encourages our students to develop a lifelong love of physical activity and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Sport Uniform – Cap

We have already seen a few hot days this term, so we ask that students wear their school cap for Physical Education classes and apply sunscreen, which can be located just outside the Physical Education office and other areas around the College. Students are also expected to be wearing hats at recess and lunch. We obviously want everyone to be as SunSmart as possible. It is also recommended to bring a drink bottle along to Physical Education classes.
