VCE Examinations

There is a lot happening in our Health and Physical Education classes, as always. Most importantly our Year 12 students are completing their exams in the coming weeks. At publication of this newsletter, our Physical Education students have already put in their best in their exam, with Health and Human Development and VET Sport and Recreation still to come. We wish them all well.

Health

Some of our Year 8 and 9 Health classes have already had their incursion workshop with Elephant Ed. Other classes will have this session over the coming weeks.

At Year 8, students are provided with strategies to analyse everyday sexualised images. Students will analyse these images and focus on distortions around consent and body image.

In Year 9, their focus this term is on sex education and healthy relationships, with a workshop topic on ‘Sexual Relationships and Consent’. Elephant Ed delivers engaging sex education workshops that are age-appropriate, evidence-based and aim to empower our young people to make informed, positive and safe decisions about sexuality, relationships and growing up.

We received some lovely feedback from the presenters on the sessions they have delivered so far:

‘Just a quick email to say thank you so much for having us at Kilbreda College last week. The team mentioned they were blown away by how welcoming and engaged both the staff and students were. So, a big thank you to you.’

Following each workshop, our students fill in a feedback form on the session. We have received some great messages of feedback from the students:

  • ‘We would love for Elephant Ed to come back.’
  • ‘Everything was great.’
  • ‘I want another lesson.’
  • ‘Very welcoming.’
  • ‘They made me feel comfortable to talk freely.’
  • ‘Thanks for coming.’

Physical Education

Our Year 10 PE classes have been enjoying a range of activities and sessions run by Proactivity. These programs offer a range of activities such as Boxercise, Pilates and Yoga, just in time to calm them before exams.

Still to Come

In a fortnight’s time the Year 8 Physical Education classes will be heading down to Mentone Lifesaving Club for three sessions of lifesaving skills, which are vitally important to our students given our physical environment.

We hope to finish off the year in Year 7 with sessions of Bike Education, both in the College and out in the community.
