Year 7 Swimming Program

Late in Term 2, students headed to Mentone Grammar and Mentone Girls’ Grammar School as part of the Year 7 Swimming Program. Sessions covered water safety education, essential survival skills, stroke techniques and the ability to assess risks associated with different aquatic environments.

Australia’s beautiful coastline, rivers and pools make water activities an integral part of our culture. It is crucial for students to be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to stay safe in and around water. It empowers students to make informed decisions and handle water-related situations confidently, reducing the risk of accidents and drowning incidents.

The Year 7 students thoroughly enjoyed the Swimming Program. Their enthusiasm and excitement were palpable as they embraced the water. It was awesome to witness their progress!

Year 10 Gym Sessions

Year 10 students had a hectic period towards the end of Semester 1 juggling exams and Futures Week. To help them unwind and relieve stress, the Physical Education department organised exercise sessions, which included guided sessions of Body Pump, Body Balance, Spin, and, for a lucky few, Zumba at South Pacific Gym in Mentone. The students took part in these sessions with great enthusiasm. Their enjoyment helped make the exercise sessions a great success in promoting their overall wellbeing.

Coming Up

Year 8

During this term, our Year 8 classes will participate in a session titled ‘Porn V Reality’ as a crucial part of the ‘Safety/Cyber Safety’ unit. Throughout this unit, students have been exploring e-safety, social media safety and the concept of sexting. Additionally, a component of the unit is focused on pornography, aiming to delve into the increased exposure to pornography, as well as the prevalent issues of violence and sexism within mainstream pornography. Understanding the detrimental impact pornography can have on individuals’ sexual knowledge, attitude and behaviors is of utmost importance for our young students.

During Physical Education the Year 8 students will ‘Bring it On’! at the end of the term, in a group of Cheerleading incursions.

Year 9

Meanwhile, Year 9 students will be channeling their inner ‘Karate Kid’ during self-defense incursions.
