Health and Physical Education
Highlights
There is always a lot happening in our Health and Physical Education classes. Most importantly, our Year 12 students will soon finish classes. We wish them all the very best in their studies and for their upcoming exams. Our Physical Education, Health and Human Development and VET Sport and Recreation students have contributed so much to our department, and we thank them sincerely for their efforts.
In coming weeks Year 9 Health classes will have their incursion workshop with Elephant Ed. Their focus this term is on sex education and healthy relationships, with a workshop topic on ‘Sexual Relationships and Consent’. Elephant Ed delivers engaging sex education workshops that are age-appropriate, evidence-based and aim to empower our young people to make informed, positive and safe decisions about sexuality, relationships and growing up.
Our Year 10 PE classes will be enjoying a range of activities and sessions run by Proactivity. These programs offer a range of activities such as Boxercise, Aerobics and Yoga, just in time to calm them before exams.
Some of our Year 7 PE classes will soon begin doing Bike Education classes. Students will be taking part in learning how to ride the bike, adjust the bike to suit them and be able to ride comfortably, the appropriate safety equipment to wear, the road rules and how to ride in a group.
Year 9 Fit For Life have continued their participation in a range of different experiences of physical activity, recently taking part in some bike riding classes.
On Monday 1 December, the Year 8 PE classes will be heading down to Mentone Lifesaving club for six sessions of lifesaving skills which are vitally important to our students given our physical environment.
Parent Reminders
Hats: Please ask your child to dig out those lovely white caps as we continue into Term 4. Our Sunsmart policy applies and we will be expecting students to wear hats outdoors again as part of their PE uniform.
Non-participation notes: If your child has a reason to not be participating (medical etc.) we would appreciate it if you could write their PE teacher a note or send them an email. This ensures that staff, parents and students are all on the same page and assessments are not affected. Let’s keep up the good communication.
