Year 8 Cheerleading Program

Our Year 8 students have embarked on a series of cheerleading sessions facilitated by Proactivity. These sessions foster collaboration and camaraderie, key ingredients in building a thriving school community. Students are introduced to a variety of cheer techniques, including stunts, tumbling, jumps and choreographed routines. Through these sessions, they enhance their strength, flexibility, coordination and cardiovascular endurance. More importantly, they learn to synchronise their movements and work together as a team. Ultimately, cheerleading is an exciting and joyful experience for all involved.

Year 9 Self-Defence Sessions

Our Year 9 students are currently engaged in a self‑defence program delivered by Kimekai. Beyond equipping them with tangible skills to protect themselves during physical attacks, this course offers a wealth of real‑world benefits. The curriculum includes a variety of self‑defence techniques such as blocking, striking and controlling manoeuvres, alongside practical advice (for example, avoiding placing a purse under your arm when using an ATM) and situational awareness training like staying alert at parties. This holistic approach empowers our students with both physical competence and everyday safety skills.

Year 11 Physical Education

The Year 11 PE class took part in a game of wheelchair basketball this week, run by Wheel Talk, part of the students’ physical activity topic.

What’s Coming Up Next?

Year 8 students will be learning some important water safety skills during their lifesaving sessions late in Term 4 with the Mentone Lifesaving club. We look forward to scoping out their new facilities.

Year 9s will attend a seminar on Relationships by Elephant Education. It will cover the moral and ethical dilemmas that come with sexual relationships, peer pressure around sexual activity and relationships, scenarios applying consent and unpacking stages of sexual activity (before, during and after).

During PE, Year 10s will focus on fitness in a group of incursions.
