Something I love about my job is the amazing collaboration that can occur between colleagues who really care. Since coming to Kilbreda at the start of the year, I have been thrilled to work with colleagues who are both interested in their craft and very focused on our students’ learning. Ranging from conversations about how to help individual students connect with their peers, to innovative ideas for introducing a new text, the English department team is a joy to work with. Along with this have come some opportunities for laughter, a few quiet giggles and a healthy dose of English teacher madness.

A key focus for us over the last six months has been working on professional learning activities around how we can help our students become ever more active learners in the classroom. Ideas have ranged from thoughtful to zany – and everything in between – but always with the focus on improving outcomes for our girls.

Below you’ll see a couple of examples of students’ poetry, with them responding to Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’ painting. Enjoy.
