English

For this newsletter, I have taken inspiration from the writing of some of our Year 7 girls. They were tasked with writing 50-word stories exploring key themes set by their teacher, Ms O’Malley. I set myself the same task – writing about an English team of passionate educators.

The English department thrived on shared laughter,

The English department thrived on shared laughter,

lively debates and a collective love of language.

They swapped books, defended favourite lines

and found comfort in stories when the school year felt heavy.

Their passion for words held them together,

a quiet solidarity that made every day feel like its own chapter.

I hope you enjoy our young authors’ work below.

Friendship

I sat alone, the metal swings screeching beside me.

No one joined me.

I was used to silence.

A pink dress suddenly filled my eyes.

A girl.

Smiling at me like I wasn’t a nobody.

She sat on the swing next to me.

I suddenly didn’t feel so invisible anymore.

Simple Joys

Sunlight shone through the window.

A frail dog slept silently beside her.

Chocolate, piping hot.

Outside, the sound of Christmas carols

And children laughing brought her peace.

Christmas spirit twinkled through the air.

She smiled. Life felt complete.

Not because of riches or fame,

But because of the simple things.

Simple Joy

The joy of my dog greeting me at the door when I return home,

Sitting, cuddling him.

Unconditional love that shows with his bouncy tail,

or when he stares at me with his big warm, brown eyes wanting to be carried around or cuddled up in a ball, in my arms.

Simple Joys

Sun melted into the bright horizon as waves whispered along the sand.

Sea shells glimmered like tiny treasures.

The ocean breeze carried memories of Summer fun.

Ice cream melted, trying to race the summer heat.

The horizon blushed as the kids created unforgettable

Summer memories at the beach.
