English

For this edition of the newsletter, the news from the English team comes from one of our students – the English Captain, Sarah.  I asked her to tell us about herself and mention her thoughts of what English does for us.

Enjoy Sarah’s warm and inspiring words below.

Student Reflection

Hi, I’m Sarah Forsyth and I’m incredibly proud to be your English Leader for 2025! I’ve always loved English, and I’m grateful for this opportunity to share that passion with others here at Kilbreda. What I love most about English is that it’s at the core part of how we communicate. Whether it be writing an essay, reading a book or presenting a speech, English provides us with an avenue to express ourselves and connect with others. Through the words we choose, the language has immense power to persuade, inspire and move people in incredible ways.

I believe English builds the strong communication and critical thinking skills needed in many careers, from law to business, healthcare and more. Even as I continue exploring my future path, I know these skills will be essential wherever I go.

Recently, I helped run our Short Story Competition where students were asked to write a short, 500-word story based on the prompt “That wasn’t supposed to happen”. It was such a rewarding experience to read so many creative and original entries, ranging from fantasy stories of kelpies and mermaids to tales of war breaking out in Victoria.

I’m looking forward to seeing what the rest of this year holds; I’m excited to continue to share my passion for English with others to help them discover just how engaging and rewarding English can be!
