Duke of Edinburgh Camp at Wilsons Promontory

The students on the second Year 9 Duke Camp had three wonderful days down at Wilsons Promontory.  After arriving at Tidal River, everyone enjoyed a two-hour surfing session. The weather was amazing with blue skies, rolling waves and it was very warm. Perfect conditions for a surf!

Around 5.00pm the clouds started rolling in over the islands. However we managed to completely miss the storm. We drove to Squeaky Beach to watch the sunset which was amazing. We were up early Thursday morning to start the 17km hike from Telegraph Station Car Park, down to Oberon Bay Camp, Oberon Bay, Norman Bay and onto Tidal River. There were frequent stops along the way and a great lunch stop at Oberon Bay.

That night, we walked up to Mt Oberon to watch another amazing sunset. It can be a challenging walk, but the students definitely thought it was worth the effort to see the view from the top of Mt Oberon. The final day was a short walk through Tidal River to Lily Pilly Gully and onto Leongatha for lunch before returning to school.

A special thanks to Derek Haagsma and Steve Brown for assisting us on our Adventurous Journey expeditions. Thanks also to Julia Smith, Annaliese Rogers, Alex Baker and Sarah Avitabile.

We look forward to our Duke of Edinburgh camps in 2024.
