Year 11 Food Studies

The Year 11 students have just completed a task which involved them designing a new chocolate bar and label for Cadbury. The students completed market research into the current types of chocolate bars on the market and designed a bar that would appeal to teenagers. The purpose of this activity was for students to understand the steps in designing a new food product. It was an activity that the students thoroughly enjoyed.

Teen Chef

On Friday 4 August, a group of five budding chefs participated in the SEGAP Teen Chef competition hosted at Killester College. Team Kilbreda thoroughly enjoyed engaging in this culinary showdown alongside their talented peers. Distinguished members of the Australian Culinary Federation were the judges, which added to the excitement.

The brief – to prepare a delicious two-course meal that would ‘wow’ the judges. Our dishes took us on an international journey with Indian delights including Butter Chicken, Garlic Rice, Raita and Naan. For dessert, they paid homage to Italian traditions with a twist and prepared Chilli Chocolate Cake, Cannoli and Orange Mascarpone Cream. Our talented team gave their all and earned a well-deserved Bronze medal.

We congratulate Maddison Terblanche and Amelia Presnell from Year 10 and Astrid Heintz, Kiara McGaw and Nyrie Bedikian from Year 11. Throughout the competition they supported one another, showcasing true teamwork.

Design and Technologies Week

From Monday 31 June until Thursday 3 August, we celebrated Design and Technologies Week. Several activities were run during this week to highlight the many opportunities and talents within this area.

On Monday, Sock Dyeing saw students come and be creative, making their own tie-dyed socks with whatever colours they liked.

On Tuesday, the very popular cookie decorating competition was back! Students had 25 minutes to decorate biscuits inspired by either animals or nature. Once the time was up, one cookie was entered into the competition for judging. It was the ‘BARBIEfied turtle’ which won the first prize!

Making Friendship Bracelets was another popular activity, with many students bringing their friends and enjoying some downtime, whilst listening to Taylor Swift and making bracelets.

Magazine Cover Competition

Running in conjunction with Design and Technologies Week, a magazine competition was held where students were encouraged to design a magazine cover, which was inspired by either food or fashion. So many amazing entries were received and the winners’ received prizes for their incredibly creative covers. Congratulations to Jara Merrick (Year 7), Bonnie Woodhouse (Year 8) and Kaitlyn Ballantyne (Year 11).
