Design and Technologies

Year 10 Textiles students have been very busy this semester. In Term 3, students focused on sustainability. They revived old, worn-out, unloved textiles items and reworked them into current street trends and wearable art. Students learnt how to deconstruct clothing and other textiles items, work independently to reconstruct their pieces into outfits, follow professional quality measures and, most importantly, fit their garments to their clients, making appropriate adjustments for what did not work. Their creative efforts were celebrated at our Fashion Show held on the opening night of Kilbreda Art and Design Exhibition.

In Term 4 students did not slow down. The class turned their skills to designing a sustainable bag of their choice and refined their sewing and construction skills by making bags from upcycled fabrics in the Textiles classroom. It was wonderful to see the students helping each other and all working as a cohesive team ensuring no student was left behind in making their garments this semester.

VET Hospitality

One of the components in the Certificate II VET Hospitality program includes ‘food service’. The Hospitality students plan, prepare and serve their food to ‘customers’ i.e. students and staff, during recess or lunch. Here, the students have prepared a healthy sausage roll, which uses two types of mince and a variety of vegetables. They served the sausage rolls with a mini cheesecake made from ‘homemade’ lemon butter, which the students had prepared in a previous lesson. Staff and students in Year 12 enjoyed this lunch very much.
