Art: Creative Practice

Art: Creative Practice Year 12 students have been hard at work on their Unit 3 folios, exploring the themes and ideas on which they will base their whole year’s work. They have been exploring various ways they can choose to complete their final, such as different methods and materials. They have been gearing up to create their final pieces to present in the upcoming presentation, the Kilbreda College Art Soirée.

Visual Communication Design

Unit 1, Outcome 1 VCE Visual Communication Design – Drawing as a Means of Communication

In this unit of study, the students develop skills in creating drawings for different purposes using a range of drawing methods, media and materials. They began by using coloured and grey lead pencils in finishing a number of different observational drawings.

The final task was completed working in reverse, where they focused on the negative / positive lines and shapes, by applying a white charcoal on a black piece of paper to create the beautiful contrasts and reflections.

Unit 3 Outcome 1- Industrial Design

Two Year 12 students studying Visual Communication Design this year have been hard at work on creating their outcomes for their Unit 3 folio, Outcome 1. The first outcome was focused on Industrial Design with the brief to create an environmentally friendly pencil case.

The pair completed their design process with a physical construction of the design, as well as an orthogonal representation of their work. Their next outcome for their Unit 3 folio will be focused on environmental design, as they will be designing a concept for the Pavilion for 2023.

Textiles

This term, the Textiles department has been very busy. With the return of the school year, we welcome Ms Mikayla Cotsis who has started her teaching career at Kilbreda. The Year 12 students have been working on creating their design briefs and conducting research. Currently, the Year 12 Product, Design and Technology (Textiles) class are working on visualisations which will allow them to further explore their ideas and will soon be developed into design options.

The Year 12 VCE Product Design and Technology (Textiles) class had the pleasure of attending a Folio Masterclass on Saturday 25 February hosted by SPP Design and Technology Teachers Association Victoria. The Masterclass provided us with a better understanding of our folio requirements, as well as urging us to come up with innovative ways to improve our folios.

The Year 7 Textiles classes have also been busy preparing their t-shirt designs. They will shortly bring them to life with the help of their wonderful teachers and will be able to transfer designs onto an actual t-shirt.

Finally, the Year 9 classes are currently working on their design process for their pyjama pants. Some students are already started working on the machines and bringing their designs to life.

Food Technology

Year 12 Food Studies students have been learning about The Australian Guide to Healthy Eating and the human digestive system. Recently they have cooked coconut pancakes with beetroot syrup and fruit and an Asian chicken noodle salad and explored how the macro-nutrients are digested in the body.

The students undertaking Year 9 Café Culture have created some amazing dishes this term. Last week they designed their own bagel choosing either a sweet or savoury topping.

Year 8 Food Technology students have been learning about knife skills, working the oven and safety and hygiene in the kitchen. They have produced fruit salad, chocolate truffles and scones.
