Creative Arts, Design and Technologies
Welcome Back to a Creative Year in Visual Arts, Design and Technologies
As we kick off the new year, we’re excited to dive into a world of colours, textures and boundless creativity in our Visual Arts, Design and Technologies subjects.
The 2025 Visual Arts Leaders, Alyssa Willetts and Chelsea Sheppard will be presented with their badges next week at the Opening College Assembly. Staff look forward to working with them this year.
At the end of 2024, we bid farewell to Mikayla Cotsis, who had been teaching Textiles at Kilbreda College for the past two years. We would like to express our sincere gratitude for her dedication in educating our Textiles students and inspiring them to explore their creativity. We wish her all the best in her future career endeavours.
We are excited to welcome two new teachers to our team. Rachel Cresp will be teaching Textiles in Years 7 to 12 and brings with her a wealth of experience. Additionally, Tina Russo will be teaching Art and Visual Communication Design with us in Term 1. We look forward to the creativity and expertise they will bring to our department.
At the end of last year, we were delighted to hear that three of our students were selected to have their artworks displayed at the upcoming Creative Arts Exhibition. The Exhibition will be held at the Catholic Leadership centre in East Melbourne during Catholic Education Week. Congratulations to Halani Davutovic (Year 12 Media, 2024), Hannah Young (Year 12 Art Creative Practice, 2024) and Gigi Hillier (Year 11 Art Creative Practice, 2024) who are the talented artists whose work was selected out of 400 submissions across Victorian Catholic schools.

Year 8 Food Technology
A very warm welcome for all Year 8 students to Food Technology!
The students have been introduced to our fabulous kitchen and learning how to be safe and hygienic in this creative space.
During practical classes we have been learning knife skills such as the ‘Bridge’ and ‘Claw’ grip. There has been lots of joy, laughter and excitement as they learn to master these skills. The students particularly enjoyed a fruit and crudités platter which they could accompany with a selection of dips, yoghurt or fruit coulis. We can’t wait to see what they create next!

Year 9 Café Culture
A very warm welcome to all year 9 Café Culture students. The students have had a wonderful start to the year learning about different styles of menus and the roles that people have in a café working environment.
In our practical classes we have been focusing on a selection of breakfast dishes that one would find on a café menu. The highlight of the cycle has been making jumbo muffins and focusing on how to present them to make them more appealing to patrons of a cafe.

Year 10 Food Technology
The students in Year 10 Food Technology cooked Wellness bowls this week. They are learning about the importance of including ingredients from the five food groups in their diet, and safety and hygiene practices. This was the first time that many of the students had eaten quinoa. The roasted chickpeas added crunch and flavour to the recipe.
