Connecting Wellbeing and Learning

From Summer to School

It was a pleasure to welcome students back on campus for the first full week last week.

For some it was quite a shock to the system after having spent seven long weeks enjoying what was one of the greatest summers in a long time. In speaking with students throughout the week about their holidays, it appears that many really took the time to enjoy friends, to take some time to rest, spend time outdoors, take on some more shifts at their part-time job and it was pleasing to see that most Senior students were able to set aside some time to tackle the holiday homework that was set during Headstart.

So now it’s time to switch and return to school and study – which for some will be challenging adjusting to new routines, especially our Year 7 and VCE students. As we launch into a new school year it is important to adjust our habits from summer to school to support a successful start of 2025.

Students can easily become overwhelmed during this time but there are a number of ‘habits’ that can be implemented to start the year with ease. Below are some top habits to take care of your health and wellbeing so that your brain is primed to learn.

  1. Be organised – Prepare for the day ahead the night before
  2. Time management – Use a homework or study planner
  3. Study space – Create a designated focus space at home
  4. Reduce digital distractions – Be proactive in managing electronic devices when studying
  5. Nutrition – Feed your brain (including a nutritious breakfast)
  6. Stay hydrated
  7. Exercise regularly
  8. Sleep – Adequate sleep for a teenager is between 8.25 to 9.25 hours per night
  9. Create a balanced lifestyle – Between school, sport, relationships and work commitments
  10. Set goals and stay calm

Forming strong habits to take care of health will ultimately lead to success in learning. We look forward to working together throughout 2025.
