Legally Blonde

‘Oh my God you guys!’

Last week began the exciting journey and process of putting on our 2023 College Production, ‘Legally Blonde’. With 130 students in Years 7 to 12, including students from St Bede’s College, the Auditorium was filled with excitement and nervous chatter.

‘Legally Blonde’ tells the timeless tale of how not to judge a book by its (bright pink) cover! When Malibu princess, ‘Elle Woods’, finds out the hard way that love isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be, she does the impossible and makes her way into Harvard Law School. What she discovers about herself and those around her, helps her show the world that you can be smart, kind and do it all in 6-inch pink stilettos!

Many students are returning to perform in their second or even fifth College production, whilst many are participating in their first. Being a part of the College production is a fantastic opportunity to meet new people across different year levels and also allows one to put themselves out of their comfort zone whilst taking up a once in a lifetime opportunity. With Ms Mitchell and Ms Everett leading the way as Directors and Producers, the College and the community are in for an outstanding performance with all involved eagerly awaiting August to arrive!

Kilbreda Dance Company (KDC)

Our KDC Leaders have started the year off strong by hosting college-wide auditions for our new KDC teams for 2023. The four teams are now all filled with promising young performers who get the chance to dance every week with our senior members leading the way. There are a total of 80 Kilbreda students that are participating in this amazing project! KDC has many performance opportunities this year including Brigidine Day and our upcoming Performing Arts Festival!

Thank you to our Student Directors and Choreographers

Kilbreda Chorale

The Colleges choir, the ‘Kilbreda Chorale’, has started the year off right with two public performances already under their belt, performing at our first whole school Mass for the year, as well as the Year 7 Welcome Mass hosted at St Patrick’s Church. The group rehearses together every week and performs songs that they feel reflect qualities of the College. This week, the students presented female empowering numbers, ‘Brave’ and ‘Girl on Fire’ for the annual International Women’s Day Breakfast. Those who were in attendance were lucky enough to hear the talent that is thriving in our Kilbreda community!

Instrumental Music Program

The Instrumental Music Program is in full swing, with students from all different year levels taking part in private and group instrumental lessons. Our wonderful array of talented teachers guide our students towards success in their instrument of choice, working towards performance opportunities throughout the year.

Our new Year 7 students got the chance to try out a variety of instruments at the beginning of this year and try their hand at creating music. Many students showed promising talent and we can’t wait to see them flourish in the coming years.

In February, we had our ‘Welcome To Music’ Evening where parents, staff and students could witness the wide range of instruments we have on offer as well as performances by tutors and students themselves. Prior to this event, past pupil and vocal teacher, Samantha Hargreaves, led a Vocal Workshop for students. She showcased her talents and musical knowledge by connecting with students through music and singing. All of the students had a blast singing along to some Disney top hits and learning what makes a singer.

We are still currently on the hunt for any students looking to study Cello, Trumpet or Clarinet, so if you are interested, please email our Performing Arts Trainee, Georgia McAleer on georgia.mcaleer@kilbreda.vic.edu.au
