Legally Blonde Band Rehearsal

On Sunday 21 May, we held our first ever live band rehearsal for our upcoming college production of Legally Blonde. The band consists of a variety of professional musicians, tutors and students, all pooling their skills to take the music of the show to the next level! After a bit of setting up of the complicated keyboard patches and sound effects, we trawled through Act 1 Music, which has been said to be one of the most challenging theatre scores around!

Music Camp

On 25 to 26 May, selected students who are members of our ensembles were invited to attend our Music Camp held at Don Bosco Campsite in Rosebud. The camp activities consisted of intense rehearsals and socialisation, to prepare for our upcoming concerts. The students enjoyed the lovely food provided by the camp cooks and revelled in our evening ‘Arranging Challenge’, where students were required to create their own version of Ben E King’s, ‘Stand by Me’, then compete in a ruthless Music Trivia competition!

Winter Music Gala Evening

Following the VCE Music Recital on Tuesday 13 June, we hosted a Winter Music Gala, where our ensembles and selected vocal soloists performed to a large audience in the Auditorium. Music ranged from art music, traditional folk songs, classic band pieces, movie themes, power ballads through to pop tunes.

The show was capably stage managed by our Performing Arts Trainee, Ms Georgia McAleer; made to sparkle with the technical skills of Mr Matthew Graham and led by our expert tutors and conductors Ms Rebecca Harkin, Mr Marc Law, Mr Joshua Hu, Ms Eugenie Lyons, Mr Bernardo Soler and Ms Jennie Mortimer.

A big thank you to our accompanists for both this event and the VCE Music Recital, Ms Rosa Hwang and Ms Irina Koulikova for their support. I also thank the Maintenance Team for their tireless efforts moving equipment and instruments.

I am incredibly proud of our students, in particular their dedication to improving their skills, not just in a performing sense, but also in the management of equipment, presentation of themselves in uniform and preparation for each showcase.

Thank you also to the parents for supporting our developing musicians in our program, financially, emotionally, and practically, as without your involvement, successful events would not occur!
