Legally Blonde

Term 2 is a busy term for Performing Arts with many exciting events occurring in the classroom and on the stage.  Our cast of ‘Legally Blonde’ are in rehearsal for our August shows and will have some exciting Sunday rehearsals to consolidate Act One which has been finished. Costumes have been ordered and set building is underway.  Stay tuned for ticketing details and this is one show you will not want to miss.

Kilbreda Festival

The Kilbreda Festival is back!  Kilbreda’s historical Performing Arts Festival is a chance for all students to showcase their talents and present either a dance, instrumental performance, drama item or vocal piece. This week, students have been participating in the heats during lunch and we have seen some amazing talent. Our judges have been Georgia McAleer (Performing Arts Trainee) and a series of Kilbreda staff who were here when the Kilbreda Festival started or who were participating students!

From the heats, a selection of students will be invited to perform at the Grand Final on Wednesday 10 May in the College Auditorium. This will be an amazing event of music and dance.  Another wonderful opportunity for students to be involved in the Performing Arts at Kilbreda!

A series of awards will be presented by our esteemed judging panel.  Tickets are available now and proceeds from the night will be donated to the Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project.

Music Update

The Music department has had a busy and productive start to the year with a range of events assisting to involve students such as the Vocal Workshop with Samantha Hargreaves, Welcome to Music Information Night, Opening and Year 7 Mass choral performances, Easter Liturgy, International Women’s Day Breakfast, Assembly and Open Evening performances. Congratulations to the many Year 7 students who have continued or begun their music learning journey through the private tuition program. We look forward to seeing your skills develop throughout your time at Kilbreda!

Just like any hobby or interest, learning to play an instrument or sing can have seasons of great excitement, growth and learning, while other times progress may feel slower or more challenging. I would like to encourage all students who may be in a more difficult season of their music journey, to continue, persist and keep your eyes focused on the long term goal of enhancing your musical craft. If interest is waning, this may be a time to focus on other skills such as musicianship, improvisation or learn a new piece in a new style! Keep your tutor informed of how you are feeling so they can support you. Listening to other artists is also a form of practise, so too is watching live performances! Do whatever it takes to keep you inspired and to develop your skills as a well-rounded musician!

Music Camp planning is well under way for students involved in our ensembles and Chorale. We look forward to a time of performance preparation, expert tuition and enjoying the company of others with similar interests. PAM permissions of intentions to attend are now due, and payments will be required by 19 May. Please contact me if any further information is required.

Thank you to the staff and parents who support the Music program, we look forward to showcasing to you very soon what the students have achieved!

Theatre Making Workshop with Dean Drieberg

On Tuesday 18 April, Ande, Rachel and I headed into the city to participate in the ‘Theatre Making Workshop with Dean Drieberg’ at the Melbourne Arts Centre. Dean is the current director of Hamilton so we felt extremely grateful to be able to participate in something this fantastic.

We explored a variety of topics that really made clear how much work goes into the creation of theatre, such as identity and how this can influence the creative process of an actor and their role and also where creative inspiration is drawn from. We were given a task to create a short play on three paintings, ‘Mona Lisa’, ‘The Scream’ and the apple man. While this was really challenging, it helped the three of us to step outside the box in terms of our creative skills and do something different compared to what we usually do.

We were lucky enough to have a tour of the new gallery that is soon to open at the Arts Centre, featuring a variety of costumes and pieces from past shows such as My Fair Lady and Anything Goes. Overall, this day was such a great experience and we were so lucky to work with such amazing people on the day too. Thank you to Ms Rabbetts for organising this for us!
