Get involved in these extra-curricular challenges and competitions to pursue your passions, build your skills, and develop your portfolio.

The 2024 Mathematics and Statistics Research Competition has officially launched!

How Does it Work?

  • It’s free.
  • It’s open to students from across Australia.
  • It’s not an exam – you write a report or make a poster.
  • There is a range of open-ended research topics to choose from.
  • You have until 31 July to undertake research and submit a project.
  • The highest-quality projects are eligible for cash prizes!
  • You may be invited to The University of Melbourne Parkville campus to deliver a presentation on your research!

How Do I Enter?

The steps are:

  1. Form a team of up to 3.
  2. Select a topic from the competition booklet. Click here to be sent a copy.
  3. Conduct research and create a report or visual display.
  4. Submit your research by the deadline.

Prizes!

Students with the top project receive
$500 each and finalists receive $200 each. There are also cash prizes for best visual displays! Check out the 2023 Finalist Projects for some inspiration.

Creative Futures Design Competition
Collarts invites budding young creatives to enter their annual design competition, with the chance to win prizes to help you make your creative dream a reality.

  • Open to: Years 10 to 12 students.
  • Dates: now – 21 July 2024.

Robert Menzies Speech Competition
Theme: ‘That is the great work of migration, building a nation’. How has post-war immigration contributed to Australia’s development and prosperity?

  • Open to: Years 9 to 12 students.
  • Dates: now – 14 July 2024.

Canvas Art Competition
If you have a knack for drawing, painting or using creative digital mediums, you are invited to interpret the brief into an illustrated scene.

  • Open to: Years 9 to12 students.
  • Dates: now – 30 June 2024.

Wool 4 School Design Competition
Create a unique design from 70% Merino wool. From fashion design to architecture, visual arts, and beyond – there are no limits to your area of design.

  • Open to: Years 7 to 12 students.
  • Dates: now – 25 July 2024.

Job Spotlight

How to Become an Agronomist

Agronomists advise farmers, industry partners and government on all aspects of farming and agriculture. They conduct research and use the findings to help improve farm production and control problems such as disease and pests. Agronomists may also help implement the latest technology on farms to boost sustainability and productivity.

If you love the outdoors and don’t mind getting your hands dirty, and are a great problem-solver and communicator, agronomy could be your perfect future career.
