Student Leadership

The process of electing our 2023 Year 12 Student Leadership Team has commenced.  On Tuesday 30 August, a student-led Assembly was held to explore student leadership. Amelie Baker discussed with the Class of 2023 the leadership qualities Year 7 students were looking for in their school leaders. Lola Martin reflected on what sets great leaders apart and she reflected on the skills and qualities she admired in past College Captains. Our current inspirational College captains Francesca Malignaggi and Alice Merchant outlined their leadership journey and the ups and downs of leadership. Sister Lia Commadeur concluded the presentation by reflecting on the spirit of St Brigid, Daniel Delany and Nano Nagle and the legacy they have left us with to be courageous individuals who strive to build communities where strength and kindliness are hallmarks.

National Child Protection Week: 4 to 7 September 2022

This week is National Child Protection week.  A key message of the week is “Every child in every community needs a fair go!” In particular, this year a light is being shown on children growing up safe and supported. Research tells us that a strong community is important for children and helps them to thrive and be safe. At Kilbreda College, we are constantly reminding both our staff and students that it’s the little things we do every day that can help create safe environments for young people.  For instance:

  • Being kind and gentle to each other.
  • Being a positive role model.
  • Getting involved in community activities and reaching out to others.
  • Looking out for signs that something may not be right for someone and asking them whether they are okay.
  • Listening to the needs of others and/or spending time with them.
  • Avoiding blame and judgement; instead, just asking oneself what I can do to help.

The enduring message of National Child Protection Week is that ‘Protecting children is everyone’s business.’  We are all called to play our part.
