In Loving Memory of Sister Angela Ryan
It is with deep sadness and profound gratitude that we share the news of the passing of Sister Angela Ryan – beloved past pupil, former Principal of Kilbreda College, and a remarkable woman whose enduring legacy is woven into the very fabric of our school and the wider Kildare Ministries community.

Angela’s lifelong connection to Kilbreda was both cherished and formative. Her educational journey began when her father, inspired by the bold and visionary leadership of Mother Margaret Mary Bourke, chose to enrol her at a school committed to empowering young women through education – especially in the fields of mathematics and science. Immersed in a culture grounded in faith, learning and justice, Angela was deeply shaped by the values of Kilbreda. She carried these values with her throughout her life and ministry, embodying our motto, Strength and Kindliness, with quiet grace. She led with compassion, acted with courage, and upheld the dignity of every person she encountered.
In 2023, it was our great honour to induct Angela as a Past Pupil of Distinction. She received this recognition with her usual humility, yet also with sincere pride in the school that had played such a significant role in shaping her life. Her words on that evening were heartfelt and wise – filled with gratitude and reflection, and a powerful affirmation of the transformative impact of a Kilbreda education.
Later that year, we were again privileged to welcome Angela back for our 120th Anniversary High-Tea, where she shared her memories of Kilbreda as both a student and Principal. Her reflections spoke of a lifelong bond with the College, and of the values that unite generations of Kilbreda women – a steadfast belief that education is not just of the mind, but of the heart.
As we remember and celebrate the extraordinary life of Sister Angela Ryan, we hold the Brigidine Sisters and her family in our thoughts and prayers. Her legacy continues in the lives she inspired, the communities she served, and the spirit of Kilbreda she so beautifully carried into the world.
