Forensic Science
Recently, as part of our Year 9 ‘Forensic Science’ elective our students became investigators for the day. The “A Case of Identity” incursion saw students interact with evidence and use observations and deductive reasoning to solve a crime. They built upon concepts covered in class such as how forensic evidence is gathered, how it is analysed and how the results of these analyses are compiled to provide a detailed picture of the events leading up to a crime. Students analysed hair and fibre samples, entomology data in determining time of death, DNA and fingerprinting analysis, footprint casts, as well as CCTV and cell tower data.
