Late last term our Year 11 students participated in an interactive incursion with the Fit to Drive Foundation, Victoria’s leading road safety provider with a mission for young lives to be free of road trauma. They were led through two workshops with their incredibly enthusiastic and engaging presenters. ‘Buckle Up’, looked at how freedom comes with challenges and explored the complexities that inexperienced road users face including learning about peer passengers and seatbelts. ‘Look Up’, focused on the difficulties of concentrating on two things at once, particularly how texting and driving do not mix and other common distractions. Sessions led by Victoria Police and Fire Rescue Victoria representatives followed with powerful case-studies presented. Most importantly, the day empowered students to create effective tools and strategies to keep themselves and their friends safe.
