Class of 1973 Reunion – 50 Year Reunion

Nothing grounds us quite so well as revisiting scenes of our youth. Saturday afternoon at Kilbreda, after an absence of 50 years, proved to be a joyous occasion! School reunions are tricky to navigate. What if we do not recognise anyone? 50 years is a long time! An excited but slightly apprehensive group of the 1973,
Year 12 cohort, gathered to look back on their formative years and reconnect with old friends. Black-and-white photo boards, kindly current students, cheerful staff and some fond reminiscences, made the day lively and enjoyable.

Among the merry group were the 1973 College Captain, Angela Ryan (McKail) and other prefects and leaders such as Cathy Treagus (Ates), Patricia Hoyne (Robertson), Belinda Young (Baker) and Pauline
Hussey (Rothberg). Many past pupils were instantly recognisable, as though time had hardly passed – a shout out to Patricia Durkin (Giannopoulos) and Diane Cavanough (Mitchell).

A tour of the College showed us some familiar touchstones, as well as a great many marvellous new amenities. Add champagne and a perilous climb of the Tower led by Damien Smith and we voted our revisit a great success! We enjoyed our time together, so much so, that an annual informal gathering is on the cards, thanks to Denise Leonard for facilitating our communications. It was inspiring to interact with so many women who embody the Strength and Kindliness of the College motto.
