Stronger Together at Kilbreda College

At Kilbreda College, we know that success is rarely achieved alone. It is found in shared challenges, quiet encouragement, and the unwavering support of peers, teachers, and families. Our community thrives on collaboration and collective effort, and over the past few weeks, we have seen incredible examples of this spirit in action.

Celebrating Excellence at the Scholars of Distinction Assembly

On Tuesday 18 February, we gathered as a community to celebrate the remarkable achievements of the graduating Class of 2024 at the Scholars of Distinction Assembly. This event was not just a recognition of academic success but an acknowledgment of the dedication, resilience and spirit that have defined this cohort. The Class of 2024 is more than a group of individuals – it is a sisterhood, united by a shared journey of perseverance and determination.

Their outstanding academic achievements have set a new benchmark for Kilbreda College. Over 17% of students attained an ATAR of 90 or above, while more than 45% achieved an ATAR of 80 or higher. Furthermore, every VCE VM student successfully completed their certificates, a testament to their commitment and perseverance. However, success is not solely defined by numbers but by the personal stories of dedication and determination behind them. We take immense pride in celebrating Marilyn Vincent, whose exceptional Product Design and Technologies work has been selected for the prestigious Top Designs exhibit, and Neve Lamb, our Dux of 2024, who achieved an extraordinary ATAR of 99.25, including a perfect score of 50 in Health and Human Development, under the expert guidance of Ms Natalie Burke.

A Vibrant Display of Spirit at the House Swimming Carnival

On Monday 24 February, the Kilbreda College community gathered at Oakleigh Recreational Centre for our annual House Swimming Carnival. This event was a vibrant celebration of school spirit, participation and camaraderie. Whether competing in swimming races, enjoying novelty events, or engaging in a friendly game of volleyball, students embraced the day with enthusiasm and joy. The highlight of the carnival was the annual ‘House Swim’, where hundreds of students filled the pool in a spectacular display of unity and excitement.

We extend our gratitude to Mrs Maree Clark, Ms Julia Smith, Mr Vince Camera, and Mr Campbell Bedford for their dedication in delivering such an exceptional carnival. A special thank you to our House Captains for their fine leadership and to our VET Sport and Recreation students who officiated on the day. We also wish our CGSAV Swim and Dive Team all the best for their upcoming competition.

Triathlon Team Triumphs

We are incredibly proud of our Triathlon Team for their outstanding results at last week’s CGSAV carnival. Demonstrating incredible courage, persistence, and sportsmanship across the swim, ride and run legs, our team showcased their dedication to both personal and team success. Their remarkable achievement – winning each division and securing the overall school champion title – is a testament to their commitment to giving their best and supporting one another.

Commitment to Continuous Improvement

At Kilbreda College, we are committed to fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Last week, we launched our Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) for 2025, an initiative designed to enhance teaching practices through collaboration and data-driven strategies. Led by our accomplished Learning Leaders, staff worked within their learning areas to analyse data, engage in robust discussions, and plan action-research projects that will contribute to a future-focused, inclusive curriculum. It was inspiring to witness the high levels of engagement and enthusiasm as our educators worked together to ensure that we provide learning experiences that nurture curiosity, confidence and independence.

Acknowledging Ash Wednesday and the Season of Lent

On Wednesday 5 March, we will gather as a community to acknowledge Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of the Lenten season. This sacred time calls us to reflection, prayer, and renewal as we prepare for Easter. As a College, we embrace this season as an opportunity to deepen our commitment to compassion, justice and service to others.  To acknowledge this occasion, Mass will be celebrated by Father Peter Matheson in the College Chapel at 8.00am. I warmly invite students and/or families to join us for this celebration of the Eucharist.

Strengthening Partnerships with Parents and Carers

As we continue to build a strong and connected school community, we look forward to welcoming parents and carers to our Year 7 to 9 ‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions on Wednesday 5 March. This event provides a valuable opportunity for students to introduce their parents/carers to their subject teachers, fostering strong relationships between families and educators. The sessions will be held in the Auditorium and Mary Dalton Hall, and we encourage all families to attend as we work together to support each student’s educational journey.

Best Wishes to Our Year 12 Students

We also extend our best wishes to our Year 12 students as they prepare for their upcoming Retreat. This special time offers them a chance to reflect on their journey, deepen their friendships, and strengthen their personal and spiritual growth. We hope that this Retreat provides them with meaningful experiences that will guide and inspire them in their final year at Kilbreda College.

At Kilbreda College, we are stronger together. Through shared successes, unwavering support, and a deep commitment to learning, our community continues to grow and thrive. We look forward to the many achievements and moments of connection that the year ahead will bring.

Invite Us Deeper

Almighty and ever living God,
you invite us deeper into your world, your people, your Lent.
May this time be one of outward focus;
seeking you in those we often ignore.
Help us live a Lent focused on freedom, generosity, and encounter.
Give us hearts hungry to serve you
and those who need what we have to give.
