Wellbeing and Engagement

Friendship and Kindness

On Do It For Dolly Day last Friday, students came together to raise awareness for kindness and anti-bullying by wearing blue ribbons and creating friendship bracelets. These simple yet powerful symbols promote compassion, inclusivity and a sense of belonging, honouring the memory of Dolly Everett and her message of kindness. Through these activities, students spark important conversations and help build a more supportive school community where everyone feels seen, safe and valued. Thanks to our Health and Wellbeing Committee Student Leaders and the Committee.

Mobile Phone Distractions – A Shared Concern

Across the country, there is growing social commentary about the impact of mobile phones on students’ focus, mental health and social interactions, particularly during class and break times. Many schools are responding by reviewing their mobile phone policies, introducing stricter guidelines, or implementing phone-free zones and times. These changes aim to reduce distractions, improve student engagement, and encourage face-to-face socialisation.

We are seeking your support for our policy published in the School Planner/Diary that bans mobile phones in classes (unless directed by the teacher for learning purposes) and during social times – a decision guided by current advice from mental health professionals and education experts. Research shows that constant access to mobile phones can negatively impact students’ concentration, social development and emotional wellbeing. By removing phones during the school day, we aim to foster deeper learning, more meaningful face-to-face interactions, and a calmer, more focused environment. This approach supports students’ mental health and helps them develop healthier boundaries with technology – skills that are increasingly important in today’s digital world.

To that end, please ensure that that your daughter has cash or card as an alternative to use for payment when purchasing from the Canteen to avoid the phone from being confiscated. Each student has an allocated locker and a lock. It is important for students to use these appropriately for their phones to be secured throughout the day. With your partnership, we can create a school culture that prioritises both academic success and personal wellbeing.
