Health and Physical Education
It has been a wonderful start to the year, and we are excited to welcome four new staff members to our faculty. Kimberley Laska has already made a positive impact, particularly on our Year 12 Physical Education program, while graduate teacher Kyle Turnbull has brought great enthusiasm to our team. In addition, we are thrilled to have Jenny DiBlasi and Rosa Malignaggi, who are already inspiring our Year 7 Health students. We look forward to a fantastic year working with them all. We are also pleased to welcome back AFL trainee Campbell Bedford, who joins us again this year.
This year holds so many opportunities as we get some exciting activities underway. With all of the excursions taking place, I want to remind parents of the difference between consent and participation. If a student is unable to participate in an excursion for whatever reason, as with any PE lesson we would ask you to simply issue them with a note or contact their teacher directly. Consent should still be given in that circumstance so that the student can attend the venue and continue to be supervised by their class teacher. Students not given consent cause difficulties regarding supervision.
Our Year 9 Duke of Edinburgh and Fit For Life elective classes are gearing up for some exciting adventures this term. The Fit For Life class will focus on exploring different experiences of physical activity, including a body balance session, boxing, and an excursion to Melbourne Cable Park to tackle the High Ropes course. Additionally, they will be heading to the gym for a few fitness classes. Meanwhile, the Duke of Edinburgh class will embark on an overnight practice hike at Phillip Island. This activity is designed to help students develop the bushcraft skills they’ll need for their Adventurous Journey camp at Wilson’s Prom at the end of the year.
The Year 10 Physical Education classes will make the most of the warm weather. Being so close to the beach, we will hold a few of their classes down at Mentone and Mordialloc beaches doing Beach Volleyball and other fun beach activities. We hope this encourages our students to develop a lifelong love of physical activity and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
We’ve already experienced a few hot days this term, so we ask that students wear their school cap during Physical Education classes and apply sunscreen, which is available just outside the Physical Education Office. Students are also expected to wear hats during recess and lunch. Our goal is to ensure everyone stays as SunSmart as possible. Additionally, it is recommended that students bring a drink bottle to their Physical Education classes.
Student Reflection
VET Sport and Recreation

On Thursday 13 February, we went on an excursion to Cable Park as part of the VET Sport and Recreation course on Work Health and Safety. Throughout the day, we had lots of fun climbing on the High Ropes course and falling into the water at the Aqua Park. After half a day of fun activities and memories, we had a Q&A session with the owner of the park, Ian Clark, who answered all our questions and gave us more insight into how the park obeys Health and Safety guidelines. The information we gathered assisted us in fostering a better understanding of Work Health and Safety, with his firsthand experience in the field.
