NAPLAN

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) 2025 for Years 7 and 9 students will be held on Wednesday 12 March, Thursday 13 March and Friday 14 March. NAPLAN tests assess student knowledge and skills in Writing, Reading, Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy.

All Year 7 and Year 9 students are expected to participate in the NAPLAN tests. Catch-up tests will be available, where possible, for individual students who are absent on test days. These students may undertake catch-up tests on Thursday 20 March.

On the test days students will be required to bring a pen to the test, their laptop which has been fully charged overnight, a set of wired headphones and a clear water bottle. The NAPLAN tests will take place in the Mary Dalton Hall.

NAPLAN is scheduled for all students in Year 7 and Year 9 for the following dates:

NAPLAN Online delivers numerous benefits including:

• A ‘tailored test’ design that adapts to correct and incorrect student responses providing a more precise understanding of student achievement

• Innovative use of technology, including a more engaging test design and a wider range of item types

This week a NAPLAN information letter was emailed to parents and carers. Please read through this to familiarise yourself with the NAPLAN tests and to access further information or practice online tests.

Later in the year, parents and carers will receive their child’s personal NAPLAN report. The report will describe your child’s particular skills in Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy. The report will also show how your child performed in relation to national minimum standards. These describe the minimum acceptable standards for students across Australia.

Meet The Teacher: Years 7 to 9 on 5 March 2025

As part of the commitment to fostering strong partnerships between families and the College, we warmly invite parents and carers to attend the Years 7 to 9 ‘Meet the Teacher’ Evening on Wednesday 5 March. This event provides an opportunity for parents and carers to connect with their child’s teachers and gain insight into their learning experience for the year ahead.

For Year 7 families, the evening will commence at 5:30pm in the Auditorium, the Year 8 session will commence at 6:30pm in the Auditorium, and the Year 9 session will commence at 7:15pm in the Auditorium, where parents and carers will hear about key aspects of your child’s learning in 2025. Following this, parents and carers will move to Mary Dalton Hall, where students are expected to introduce their parents and carers to their subject teachers for 2025. This informal setting allows for meaningful conversations about your child’s learning while also strengthening connections between parents, teachers, and the wider College community. Finger food will be provided in the centre of the Hall, offering an opportunity for families to connect with one another.

I look forward to welcoming parents, carers and students at this important event.

College High Achievers Assembly

It was a privilege to announce the names of the students of the VCE 2024 cohort who achieved study scores of 40 and above (top 9% of the state) and ATARS of 90 and above in our first College Assembly. It is also important to acknowledge the entire Year 12 cohort of 2024 for their dedication and commitment to their studies. Their drive to consistently improve and achieve their best was wonderful to experience as both a senior leader at the College and a subject teacher at Year 12. Our College Dux, Neve Lamb, spoke about the importance of resilience and confidence in our abilities. It was with diligence, an understanding of her motivations and the desire to seek feedback to continually improve that led Neve to achieve her absolute best. I congratulate her along with all the Year 12 cohort.

I wish all the students all the very best for their future endeavours as they move on to the next stage of their journey of learning, entering fulltime employment, experiencing a gap year or beginning their tertiary studies.

May the road rise up to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face;

The rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

(An Irish Blessing)
