Juniors
The Junior CGSAV Football team did an incredible job in this recent competition. We worked together well, communicated and most importantly, we had a lot of fun. The first game started as soon as we got there, so we warmed up and began. The game was against St Columba’s College and we walked away with a win. The second game was against Sacred Heart College and again we walked away with the win. We ended up with easy wins in all of our games, so we had high hopes. The strongest team we had faced was St Mount Josephs but we ended up winning in our first game against them. Again, we had really high hopes going into our last game before the grand final. We won that game but unfortunately only had a five-minute break before facing Mount St Joseph’s in the grand final. In this game we fought hard and didn’t give up. However, despite doing everyone we could, we just couldn’t finish it off.
I am super proud of this team and I think we had an amazing day despite not winning the grand final. We all passed the ball well, talked to our team mates and kept our heads high the entire day. I hope everyone that played this year will come next year and hopefully we can walk away with a win!

Intermediates
On 19 July an Intermediate team of Year 9 and 10 students was taken down to Royal Park for our AFL tournament. We were the first to arrive at the venue and so we began to warm up and get excited. The Inters had a bye for the first game so we watched and cheered our Seniors and Juniors. Before our game began we had a team huddle to talk about tactics and strategies. Our first game started at 9.40am and we were playing Santa Maria and we won! Our second game was against Sacred Heart College and we won again! Our third game was played against Mount Saint Joseph’s College and we got our third win! We then played our semi-final and although we started off a bit shaky, we got there in the end and we won! We were so hyped and nervous all at the same time. In the grand final we played Santa Maria and unfortunately, we lost. It was sad and unlucky but overall it was such an amazing day and an awesome experience! Shout out to Mr Kelly for coaching our team and making the day enjoyable!

Seniors
The Senior team, consisting of Year 11 and 12 students faced a tough fixture at the beginning of the CGSAV AFL competition. We were playing with a team of only 12 players due to clashes with various excursions and SACs, meaning we would be multiple short in every game and without a bench. However, the team took on the challenge valiantly, running hard despite fatigue and a disadvantage in numbers, managing to convincingly win every game and solidify our place in the grand final. Unfortunately, our lack of players and a few injuries caught up to the team by the afternoon, leaving us with only ten players in the grand final and unable to pull off a win. Although we had a disappointing end to the day, the whole team was still extremely proud of our efforts to continue to put up a fight despite our limited numbers.

CGSAV Volleyball
We had seven teams compete in the CGSAV Division 1 Volleyball tournament at MSAC on Tuesday 1 August. The other schools were Mater Christi, Santa Maris, OLSH, SHGC and Academy College.
Junior A made it through to the grand final game but lost to Santa Maria; Junior B and C missed out on the grand final game on percentage after winning three of their five games; Intermediate A narrowly lost their last game, which put them out of the grand final game; Intermediate B had some very close sets, especially with Academy, where they drew the match. Senior A finished fifth and Senior B finished Fourth. A great day was had by all!

3x Champions Cup Basketball
Last week, two of our Junior and two intermediate 3x Basketball Teams competed in the State 3x finals after qualifying for this competition last term.
Juniors
On Monday 24 July, seven students from across Year 7 and 8 qualified to compete at the 3x Champions Cup 3x Finals. It was a fantastic day full of hustle, teamwork and some great plays. The competition was tough and considering this was the students’ first time participating in an event like this, they did extremely well! Overall, the Division 1 team lost in their first final and the Division 2 team lost in their quarter final.
Congratulations to the following students who participated:

A Team – Division 1
The intermediate A team of Olivia Murphy, Ella Wickstrom, Jas Perry and Bianca San Jose had come through the qualifying day undefeated so were touted as one of the top teams and they did not disappoint. Undefeated through their five round games, the team was playing some exceptional basketball with their individual and team defence the best on the day and their selfless play on offence making them almost unstoppable! An easy quarter final victory (21-7) over Catholic Ladies College, Eltham before a 3 point win over St Helena in the semi final saw them facing renowned basketball school, Templestowe College. The start of the final was close with Kilbreda unable to capitalise on their opportunities to score and Templestowe knocking down some tough shots. As the game wore on Templestowe were unable to guard the penetration of Jas, Ella and Bianca, and with Liv knocking down back-to-back shots and the team coming up with a number of stops, Kilbreda drew away for a comfortable 17 – 12 victory to be named Victorian 3X Division 1 Champions.
B Team – Division 2
The Intermediate B team of Olivia Simurina, Olivia Robertson, Lucy Cracknell and Alicia Vu started the day well with their strong penetration and consistent outside shooting allowing them to grab wins and second place in their pool. An easy quarter final win (15-7) over Box Hill Secondary College and a very tight (5-3) semi-final win over Patterson Lakes Secondary College, saw them face an undefeated Christian College, Geelong in the final. This was a see-sawing game with the lead changing a number of times. Lucy, and both Olivias were causing havoc with their penetration while Alicia’s smart play and strong defence kept the game tight. With Christian College ahead by two points with 10 seconds remaining, the game looked over before Olivia Robertson’s goal just before the buzzer tied the game up and sent it to overtime! Overtime had us all on our seats but it was Christian College who were able to score the two points first, taking a one point win. This was a great effort by the team to finish as Division 2 Runners Up.
A huge congratulations to the students for the way they conducted themselves throughout the day. They played sensational basketball and were an absolute delight to watch.
Missing Uniforms
Could parents please keep an eye out for any Kilbreda sport uniforms that may have accidentally made their way home. We seem to be missing quite a few, particularly our football shorts. These items are not cheap to replace and we would appreciate them being returned if they are found. Thank you.
