Year 9

The night of nights for the Year 9 cohort was held during the final week of Term 3 when the annual Year 9 Social was held with St Bede’s College. 102 excited girls and 111 nervous boys all descended onto the beautifully decorated Mary Dalton Hall, as Kilbreda once more hosted this much anticipated event. The Hall looked spectacular with it being adorned with twinkling fairy lights and featuring a sparkly photo backdrop. Students, dressed in their interpretations of smart casual attire, excitedly entered the Hall.

At the beginning of the evening there was a clear divide between the schools, however the nervous glances and shy looks soon gave way to some fervent participation under the excellent guidance of Felix Meagher, from Bushwahzee. He encouraged the students to all learn the art of bush dancing and soon everyone was getting used to the terms “heel and toeing” and “playing the drongo”. Two left feet were transformed as skills became more proficient and confidence increased with each rotation.

After a good hour of “do-si-do”, Felix was replaced with DJ Lauren. She encouraged students to get up and dance to some more well-known songs. There was lots of enthusiastic singing and even some more energetic dance moves observed as the night progressed.

Lots of laughter, chatter and photos were taken by students from both schools. It was lovely to see some lovely new connections made between students from both schools and even strengthened some existing ones. The event was more than just a dance; it was a celebration of camaraderie and mutual respect. Students displayed exemplary conduct and enthusiasm, making the night a resounding success.

As students departed, the smiles and laughter echoed the sentiment of a night well spent, marking the event as a cherished memory in their school journey.

On another note, we wish Ms Cowan a very deserved and well-earned break as she embarks on an extended period of long service leave for Term 3 and Term 4. We wish her all the best and look forward to welcoming her back next year.
