Welcome Year 7 – A Wonderful Start to Life at Kilbreda College

It has been such a joy to watch our Year 7 students begin their secondary schooling journey with confidence, curiosity and kindness. Over these first weeks, they have settled in beautifully, quickly learning new routines, navigating the campus independently and forming new friendships along the way.

Starting high school is a big step, and I am incredibly proud of how brave and positive our students have been, embracing every new experience.

We have already shared several important milestones together:

• Music Try-Out Day – students enthusiastically explored instruments and performance opportunities, stepping outside their comfort zones and discovering new talents.
• School Photos – a special moment capturing the beginning of their Kilbreda story.
• Our First Day 8 Early Finish – a great introduction to our 10-day timetable and building independence.
• Term 1 Assembly – a memorable occasion where our newest students were formally welcomed into the Kilbreda community by staff and peers. Seeing them stand together with such pride was a wonderful moment.

Each event has helped our students feel more connected and confident as members of the College.

The most pleasing part of these first weeks hasn’t just been attendance at events – it’s the everyday things like:

• friendly smiles in the corridors
• students helping each other find classrooms
• the courage to ask questions
• laughter in the yard
• and a genuine willingness to try new things

These small moments tell me that our Year 7s are already building the foundations for a strong and supportive year level.

There is so much more to come – camps, co-curricular opportunities, learning challenges, celebrations and friendships that will grow throughout the year. We will continue to focus on helping students feel safe, connected and confident as they develop both academically and personally.

To our families, thank you for your ongoing support and trust. Starting secondary school is a partnership and we value working closely with you to ensure every student thrives.

I feel incredibly privileged to lead this vibrant group of young people and look forward to watching them continue to grow.
