Year 7 Update – End of Term 2

As we reach the end of Term 2, it is hard to believe that our Year 7 students are now officially halfway through their first year of secondary school. The past six months have been filled with new experiences, challenges, friendships and opportunities for growth, and it has been wonderful to see how much our students have developed since their first day at Kilbreda.

Transitioning from primary school to secondary school is a significant milestone, and our Year 7 students should be proud of all they have achieved. Whether it has been learning to navigate a new timetable, managing multiple subjects and teachers, building new friendships, joining co-curricular activities or stepping outside their comfort zones, they have demonstrated resilience, courage and a willingness to embrace new opportunities.

One of the highlights of the term was undoubtedly The Addams Family production. We congratulate all of the students involved, both on stage and behind the scenes. The talent, dedication and teamwork displayed throughout rehearsals and performances were exceptional. Students committed countless hours to bringing the production to life and should be incredibly proud of what they achieved. It was wonderful to see so many Year 7 students showcasing their talents and contributing to such a successful school production.

As Semester 1 reports become available, we encourage families to take the opportunity to sit down with their daughters and reflect on the semester together. Reports provide valuable information about academic progress, but they can also be a useful prompt for conversations about how students are travelling more broadly. Consider checking in on how your daughter is feeling academically, socially and emotionally. What has she enjoyed most this semester? What challenges has she overcome? What goals might she like to set for Semester 2? These conversations can be a powerful way to celebrate successes, recognise growth and identify areas where additional support may be helpful.

The holiday break provides students with a valuable opportunity to rest, recharge and spend quality time with family and friends after a busy and productive semester. We encourage students to take advantage of this time to relax, pursue their interests and return refreshed for the second half of the year.

Students will, however, have holiday homework to complete across a number of subjects. We ask families to support their daughters in planning their time over the break so that these tasks are completed before the commencement of Term 3. Developing effective organisational habits now will help students continue to build independence and set themselves up for success throughout their secondary schooling.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support throughout the semester. It has been a pleasure working with our Year 7 students and watching them grow into confident and capable members of the Kilbreda community. We wish all Year 7 families a safe, restful and enjoyable holiday break and look forward to seeing everyone back for what promises to be an exciting and rewarding Semester 2.
