Year 12
Student Reflection: Year 12 Retreat
On 4 March the Year 12 2026 cohort embarked on journey of reflection and connection to Rutherford Park for the Retreat.
The afternoon began with a session on Wonder. It encouraged us to think about where we can see wonder in our lives, be it the smile of a friend or walking in nature. After dinner we looked at the issue of Justice and where injustice occurs both locally and internationally. Then we were each given a scenario to create an outfit which explained the issue. It certainly enabled us to creatively think about the issue after we had spent time looking for statistics and the impact our issue had in the world.
Our second day began with breakfast before we set off for another eventful day. We began by looking at our own dreams and hopes for the next academic year – what could we do to fulfil our dreams? Who may we need to call on to support us? Following this we went outside for some physical activities that included the entire group. Much laughing was shared as we tried to say our names in sequence or balance on each other. The afternoon was spent preparing for our liturgy. The space was beautifully decorated with the Kildare crosses we made on Day 1, along with candles and greenery from the grounds.
Our day was made all the more special for us with the arrival of Father Peter and Ms Smyth who joined us for dinner. Ms Smyth spoke to us about how to be courageous both at school and in the world. We are so grateful that Father Peter made the long trip to celebrate the Eucharist with us. His wise words resonated with many of us as we thought about how we could make a difference in the world.
Our last morning began with an early walk up the hill, where we embraced the beauty of Rutherford Park with the sunrise in the background. It reminded us of the idea of Wonder which we discussed on Day 1.
We then partook in our last session where we invited key people to our dinner party. It was so interesting to hear who we invited and why. Lastly, we opened our affirmation bags. Reading messages of appreciation from our classmates certainly made the morning special. They are something that we can cherish always.
A special thank you all the teachers who dedicated their time to being there with us. You created a space where connections flourished and individuals felt supported. We will remember it fondly.

Year 12
It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm displayed by Year 12 at the House Swimming Carnival. The variety of costumes was a sight to be behold. Not only did they cheer loudly for their teammates, but they jumped in the pool to fill races and relay teams.
The excitement continued this week with the Pastoral session where we combined with the Year 11s for some friendly rivalry playing matball and various board games. I am pleased to say that Year 12 were the winners. It was a break from the stresses of SACs and enabled students to think of their physical and mental wellbeing. I hope that the Term 1 break enables them to relax and reset ready for a very busy term to come.
