Sport
Welcome to Sport at Kilbreda for 2025!
2024 was a very successful sporting year for Kilbreda with many students participating in our House Swimming and Aths Carnivals, as well as representing the College in the many sports on offer. We had great success too with many teams winning their divisions in the CGSAV and SEGAP competitions and we look forward to this continuing in 2025.
House Sport
The school Swimming Carnival will be held on Monday 24 February at Oakleigh Recreational Centre. The students compete in their houses Tullow (red), Brigid (green), Delany (yellow) and Kildare (blue) and can enter 25m and 50m events in Freestyle, Breaststroke, Butterfly and Backstroke as well as novelties and relay races. If time permits, the staff v student relay is always highlight! The fastest swimmer from each year level also races off to determine the fastest swimmer in the College. Last year, Delany won the 2024 House Cup.
The school Athletics Carnival will be held Thursday 27 March at Duncan McKinnon Reserve. Last year we saw record numbers of participation across all field and running events. Delany also won the Athletics Cup in 2024.
CGSAV – Catholic Girls Sport Association of Victoria
The CGSAV competition sees Kilbreda compete against other Catholic Girls schools around Melbourne and Geelong in a variety of sports. These events take place during the day and are held mostly at a venue in Melbourne and surrounds. For most competitions we send a Junior (Year 7 and 8), Intermediate (Year 9 and 10) and Senior (Year 11 and 12) team. For further information on these carnivals, you can head to the website https://www.scsa.org.au/home/ or follow the Facebook page Secondary Catholic Sports Association for up to date info and tournament results.

Trialling for teams
The trials for these sports will take place approximately 3 to 5 weeks prior to the event. As was the case last year communication will take place via the Sport Google Classroom page on Simon. We encourage students to regularly check this communication as it is up to them to know what is going on each term.

Once teams are selected, they will receive an email through the parent portal (PAM) with all the details about the event. You will then need to give parent consent for your child to participate. Permission needs to be at least two days prior to the competition date.
CGSAV Sports Leaders Breakfast – Student Reflection

The House Sport Leaders had the incredible opportunity to visit Marian College Sunshine and engage with leaders from other Catholic girls’ schools. A highlight was hearing from Georgia Patrikios, whose journey of resilience and success was truly inspiring. She emphasised that leadership is about more than just winning; it’s about perseverance, teamwork and lifting others as we rise. Her words resonated deeply, reminding us that setbacks don’t define us, but how we respond to them does.

This experience reinforced the importance of fostering a supportive and empowering culture within our houses. It’s not just about organising events or encouraging participation – but about leading with integrity, strength, and compassion. Meeting Georgia and sharing ideas with fellow Leaders left us feeling motivated to make a lasting impact, both on and off the field.
