Principal’s Message
As we begin Term 2, we do so with a renewed sense of purpose, continuing our call to be Stewards of Brigid’s Flame and to be a light for the world. I extend a very warm welcome to the new families who have joined our Kilbreda community this term. We are delighted that you are now part of our story.
The season of autumn offers us a gentle invitation to notice change. Our College oak tree, so central to our landscape and story, reminds us that growth is not always immediate or visible. There are seasons for renewal, for deepening roots, and for steady, purposeful work. Term 2 calls us into such a season – one of commitment, effort and quiet determination.
We have begun the term with a strong sense of community. Our House Athletics Carnival brought us together in joyful participation, marked by outstanding involvement and House spirit. In a different but equally powerful way, we gathered to commemorate Anzac Day, pausing as a community to remember, reflect and honour those who have served. These shared moments shape us, drawing us together in both celebration and reverence.

Across the College, there is a strong sense of engagement in learning and life. Our Year 12 students have proudly received their hoodies – a significant rite of passage, worn with both excitement and belonging. Our VCE students continue to apply themselves with focus, while our VCE VM students demonstrate curiosity and thoughtful reflection through their iLearn iLead projects.

Our Year 11 students have returned from Central Australia with a deepened sense of connection, to one another, to the land and to something beyond themselves. It has been a privilege to hear their reflections: the joy of shared moments playing cards, the simplicity of time together and the experience of celebrating Easter in community. The extended Mass, rich in story and song, was a powerful reminder of faith lived and shared. Hearing students speak of singing Christ Be Our Light was particularly meaningful, given its connection to our identity.

Year 10 students are beginning to explore future pathways with intention, engaging in Allwell testing to better understand their strengths. They continue to contribute generously to College life, as Peer Support Leaders, in accelerated studies and through co-curricular involvement, from sport to the Kilbreda Dance Company and rehearsals for Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat.

For our Year 9 students, this term brings both challenge and opportunity. Visits to the Shrine, Duke of Edinburgh preparations, and the commencement of their Bridges to Country unit invite a deeper understanding of place, responsibility and identity. Their engagement across co-curricular life reflects a vibrant and active year level.
Our Year 8 students continue to embody Mr Fitzsimons’ call to “Don’t forget to be awesome”, embracing leadership opportunities and sharing their Kilbreda experience with primary students. Their commitment to sustainability, clubs and teams reflects a growing confidence and sense of belonging.
Our Year 7 students have navigated their first term of secondary school with courage and growing confidence. It has been wonderful to see friendships deepen, participation flourish at the Athletics Carnival, and enthusiasm for the many opportunities available, from morning aerobics and Run Club to music ensembles and dance. They are finding their place within our community.
Staff began the term with a Professional Learning Day focused on The Future of Education, with a particular emphasis on wellbeing. Together, we explored character strengths and how to recognise and nurture these in ourselves and others. This work forms part of our ongoing focus on Learning and Living Wellbeing, as we build a strong, evidence-informed foundation for the future.

As we look ahead, we prepare to honour Mother’s Day – a time to give thanks for the love, strength and care of mothers and mother figures. We hold this day with sensitivity, recognising it is experienced in different ways across our community and extend our warmest wishes to all who nurture and guide others.
We also look forward to upcoming events, including the Kilbreda Festival and our Music by Candlelight concert. Following this week’s music residency, this mid-year concert promises to be a beautiful celebration of the talent, dedication and spirit of our students.
Student Achievements
This spirit of engagement is reflected in the achievements of our students.
- Verity W (Year 11), recently delivered an inspiring address at the ICAN Network Parliament of Victoria, speaking with honesty and courage about her aspirations and the support required to realise them.
- Vida Y (Year 11), was awarded first place in the Rotary Club of Dingley Anzac Day Public Speaking Competition. In a week of remembrance, her words gave voice to the spirit of Anzac and the power of reflection and gratitude.
- Matilda H and Vida Y (both Year 11) represented Victoria at the National Track and Field Championships in Brisbane, and Neve H and Zara T (both Year 10), represented Victoria at the National Hockey Championships in Hobart.
- Ella K (Year 12), achieved her Black Belt in Karate – a testament to discipline, perseverance and commitment.
These achievements remind us of the many ways our students strive, contribute and excel. We are proud of each of them.
In Our Thoughts and Prayers
We hold Leila T (Year 12) and her family in our prayers following the passing of her father, Chris. May God’s abundant blessing rest upon Chris, and may Leila, Jen and Edward be held in His love and surrounded by the gentle strength and care of our community.
As we move through this term together, may we continue to walk with purpose, supporting one another, working with commitment and carrying Brigid’s flame forward in all that we do.
May we be a light for the world, in the way we learn, in the way we lead, and in the way we care for one another.
With strength and kindliness,
Stephanie
