VCE Dance Workshop with Dante

Last week, the VCE Dance students took part in the first of many exciting workshops with our guest choreographer, Dante, from Scimm Dance. This experience gave us a chance to learn new skills and explore different styles of dance, which we are now able to implement in our own choreographic solos.
During this workshop, Dante taught us a routine that guided us through different movement techniques such as adagio and staccato, which are moment styles that demonstrate the difference between moving in a slow rhythm and moving in a sharp, fast-paced rhythm.
Overall, this workshop was a valuable experience for all VCE Dance students, and we are so grateful to Dante! We look forward to working with him again next week.

Character Workshop with Rohan Browne
Last Friday the Unit 1 & 3 Drama class was fortunate enough to welcome Rohan Browne from Arts Lab Collective for an intensive character-building workshop. Rohan shared his set of skills under the program Embody. Through this we explored the ideas of Think, Want, Fight, Choose and Live, and how we can use given circumstances, objectives, obstacles, actions and behaviour to create and develop our characters’ purpose and storyline throughout scenes. We explored these approaches directly with a cold-read of a scene from The Picture of Dorian Gray. This gave us a chance to form our own opinions on the character and scene with very minimal background information given.

We also had the opportunity to work on our own characters featured in our upcoming ensemble tasks/assessments titled “Yes Queen”. By incorporating the expertise Rohan was sharing with us, along with the foundation we had already created, we were able to further develop our characters. Exploring specific actions and feelings sparked ideas for new scenes where we can continue to use the skills of Embody.
We were very fortunate to learn from Rohan and can’t wait to continue to expand our knowledge and understanding through further collaboration with Arts Lab Collective.
