Design and Technology Week Report

Design and Technology Week, held from 10-14 August, was a wonderful celebration of creativity, culture, cuisine and sustainability across our school community.

A highlight of the week was the Year 11 Teen Chef and VM students’ Italian Donut activity. Students worked together to prepare and produce delicious Italian-inspired donuts, which proved extremely popular with both students and staff. The donuts sold out, raising more than $100 for Saltbush. This activity not only showcased the students’ culinary skills and creativity but also demonstrated the positive impact that practical learning can have beyond the classroom through community support and fundraising.

The Textiles room was also a hive of activity throughout the week, with students enthusiastically participating in a purse-making activity. Using recycled fabric, students were able to develop their design and making skills while exploring important sustainability principles. The activity encouraged students to consider how materials can be reused and repurposed, reinforcing the importance of sustainable practices in Design and Technology.

It was wonderful to see so many students and staff getting involved in the activities throughout the week. From cooking and creating to exploring sustainable practices, the festivities provided an opportunity to celebrate the diverse culture, cuisine and creativity that are integral to the Design and Technology learning area.

A big thank you to the Design and Technology team, staff and student leaders for their enthusiasm, organisation and support in bringing the week to life. Their efforts, together with the enthusiastic participation of our students, made Design and Technology Week a memorable celebration of creativity, collaboration, sustainability and community.
