Music

The past few weeks have been filled with inspiring performances, community events and exciting announcements for Kilbreda Music. On Tuesday 11 November, a small ensemble from the Kilbreda Chorale, featuring students from Years 9 to 11, had the honour of performing the Australian National Anthem at Mentone RSL’s Remembrance Day service. Their performance was a moving tribute, adding a heartfelt musical presence to the ceremony and reflecting the spirit of remembrance and respect for those who have served. We are incredibly proud of these students for representing the College with such dignity and talent on this important occasion.

On Monday 17 November, the Music Program proudly took part in the Becoming a Kilbreda Girl information night. This special evening welcomed new families whose daughters will be joining Year 7 in 2026. Our dedicated music tutors spoke with families, sharing the opportunities and experiences available through Kilbreda’s vibrant program. It was a fantastic chance to showcase the passion and community spirit that make Kilbreda Music so unique. A heartfelt thank you goes to everyone involved in making the night such a success.

On Tuesday 25 November, Kilbreda hosted its annual Christmas Concert, bringing festive cheer to a packed audience. This year’s theme, ‘Believe’, was inspired by the beloved Christmas classic The Polar Express, setting the tone for a magical evening of music and celebration. An incredible 112 students took to the stage, showcasing the breadth of our program with performances including:

• Year 7 Band and Orchestra Program with a contrasting rendition of ‘Jingle Bells’

• Beginner String Ensemble performing ‘Joy to the World’

• Jazz Combo energising the crowd with ‘Jingle Bell Rock’

• Ms Mortimer’s Vocal Ensemble delivering a moving ‘Spirit of the Season’

To close the evening, the entire music program united for a rousing performance of ‘Believe’ from The Polar Express, and ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’, filling the Auditorium with festive spirit. It was a magical way to celebrate the end of a massive year for Kilbreda Music – an evening that reminded us all of the joy, talent and community that music brings.

Looking ahead, we are excited to announce updates to our Co-Curriculum Music Program for 2026. To help families select the most suitable option, we encourage everyone to read the updated Information Guide. Key changes include:

• New lesson lengths: 30, 45, and 60‑minute options now available

• Fresh ensembles: Junior Guitar Ensemble and Flute Choir offered for expressions of interest
