Tuesday’s Term 3 College Assembly was a wonderful celebration of the achievements, talents and leadership within our Kilbreda community. A special thank you to our Assembly host, Eliza S, who confidently led us through the morning.

We reflected on some of the many highlights of Term 3 and proudly acknowledged the recipients of our Principal Awards. These awards recognise students who embody the heart of Kilbreda by demonstrating Strength and Kindliness through courage, compassion and integrity, while contributing to a genuine sense of belonging within our community. Congratulations to all of our award recipients.

Our Principal, Ms Stephanie Smyth, reflected on the importance of Justice, our College theme for 2026. She reminded us that justice calls us to listen, notice those who may be overlooked, stand up for what is right and ensure that everyone feels seen, valued and included.

We also celebrated the students who will take on leadership roles in 2027, with the announcement of our College Co-Captains, Vice-Captains, Student Leadership Team and House Leaders. Congratulations to everyone who stepped forward and showed a willingness to lead our community with Strength and Kindliness.

The assembly also showcased the exceptional musical talents of our students. The Percussion Ensemble and Theatre Orchestra delivered wonderful performances, including excerpts from The Phantom of the Opera.

Thank you to all the students and staff who contributed to such a memorable morning of celebration, connection and community.

Student Policies

We are currently working with KEM/MACS to review and update several student policies, including the Bullying Prevention and Response Policy and the Student Behaviour Policy. Further information about these policies will be shared early in Term 4.

We are also reviewing our Mobile Phone and Personal Device Policy. As part of this process, students and families will be invited to complete a survey and provide feedback on what an appropriate and effective phone policy should look like for our Kilbreda community.

Uniform Expectations and Considerations

Uniform checks were conducted last week, and I appreciate the support of families in ensuring students attend school in the correct College uniform. Our uniform helps foster a sense of pride, belonging and connection to Kilbreda, and students are expected to wear it correctly each day.

We also recognise the importance of ensuring that students feel comfortable and confident in their uniform. Students have been invited to join an advisory committee to review samples provided by Bob Stewart and share their perspectives. In response to recent feedback about the College trousers and tracksuit pants, new samples are being developed. Students will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the styles they find most comfortable and practical.

As Catholic educators, we have a moral, mission-driven and legal responsibility to actively promote the safety and wellbeing of every student entrusted to our care. Our commitment to protecting children and young people is grounded in fairness, inclusion and respect for diversity, ensuring every student is treated with dignity, compassion and care.

As Pope Francis stated: “The effective protection of minors and a commitment to ensure their human and spiritual development, in keeping with the dignity of the human person, are integral parts of the Gospel message that the Church and all members of the faithful are called to spread throughout the world.” (2019)

At Kilbreda, we strive to create a welcoming and inclusive community where diversity is celebrated, equity informs our policies and practices, and the individual identities, circumstances and needs of every student are understood and respected.
