Embracing Belonging: A Vibrant Start

The commencement of the 2026 school year at Kilbreda College has been heartening, as students joyfully reconnect and fill our hallways, classrooms, sporting fields and campus with the vibrant energy that defines our College community. It has been a privilege to witness the enthusiasm and lively conversations with which our girls have embraced the new academic year.

A significant moment in these early weeks was our Term 1 Assembly, where high achievers from the Class of 2025 were warmly welcomed back and celebrated. Their dedication and hard work were evident, and it was wonderful to acknowledge their achievements. We also celebrated our Year 12 Student Leaders. In the rich tradition of our Brigidine story, these students step forward as the next keepers of St Brigid’s flame – entrusted with honouring the legacy of those who have gone before them and carrying it forward with strength and kindliness.

Throughout their time at Kilbreda, our Student Leaders have demonstrated resilience, humility and quiet confidence. They have not been afraid to speak up for what is right, to bring hope into everyday moments and to build community through genuine relationships. Their leadership is not defined by titles alone, but by the way they walk alongside others – especially in the ordinary moments where connection truly matters. They recognise that each person brings something unique to Kilbreda and are committed to creating a community where everyone feels valued, known, and supported.

Commencement Mass and Commissioning of the College Principal

On Tuesday 17 February, we will gather as a faith community to celebrate our Commencement Mass. This is a significant and sacred moment in the life of our school. Having begun the year in prayer and hope, we will come together – grounded in the mission of Kildare Ministries and inspired by the Brigidine tradition – to formally commission Ms Stephanie Smyth as the new Principal of Kilbreda College.

Commissioning is a formal and symbolic act of entrusting leadership. It is a time to affirm shared commitments, rejoice in new beginnings and offer sacred symbols that will accompany and guide our new Principal on the journey ahead. Students are encouraged to become architects of Kilbreda’s future, carrying the flame of St Brigid forward with Strength and Kindliness and a commitment to fostering right relationships with one another.

The school year has also begun with a range of activities designed to nurture a strong sense of belonging within our community. The Big Sister, Little Sister Program – led by graduates from the Class of 2025 and our EngageEd mentors – has played a vital role in supporting Year 7 students as they transition to life at Kilbreda, reflecting the spirit of mentorship and sisterhood.

From the elegant Year 12 Formal to the welcoming Year 7 Welcome Eucharist (this evening), the Year 9 Plate pastoral activity and the Term 1 Assembly, each event has contributed to strengthening our sense of community. These shared experiences provide opportunities for celebration and connection, fostering the unity that is essential to a thriving and supportive school environment.

As we continue our journey through the 2026 academic year, may we carry forward this spirit of belonging – embracing warm hospitality, nurturing right relationships and working together as one Kilbreda community. In doing so, we lay strong foundations for future generations, ensuring that the flame of St Brigid continues to illuminate our path with strength, kindliness and purpose.
