Music by Candlelight: Let’s Get Loud!

This year’s annual music concert, Music By Candlelight: Let’s Get Loud, was a celebration of contrast, creativity and community. The evening was thoughtfully curated to take the audience on a musical journey – from soft, expressive beginnings in a candlelit setting to a bold, high-energy finale that truly lived up to the theme.

The concert opened with a series of solo and duet performances that showcased the depth of talent among our students. These early pieces were reflective and intimate, highlighting expressive phrasing, dynamic control and emotional storytelling. From classical works to acoustic interpretations of contemporary songs, each performance demonstrated the students’ growing confidence and musical maturity.

As the evening progressed, the energy gradually built. VCE Music students presented early versions of their Unit 3 arrangements – reimagined covers that reflected their personal musical styles. These performances offered a glimpse into the creative process and the diverse influences shaping our senior musicians.

A highlight of the night was the debut of the Year 7 Orchestra Program, a new initiative that brings ensemble playing into the classroom. Their performances of Hot Cross Buns and Classic Frogs were met with enthusiastic applause, marking an exciting beginning for these young musicians. The String Ensemble, Kilbreda Chorale, and Wind Ensemble followed with polished and expressive performances, each exploring the power of dynamics and group collaboration.

The second half of the concert brought a shift in atmosphere, with jazz-inspired sets, percussion features and full ensemble works. The Concert Band and Orchestra delivered powerful renditions of cinematic and contemporary pieces, showcasing the full range of tone, texture, and volume.

The evening concluded with a massed performance of Let’s Get Loud, arranged by Victor Lopez. This final piece brought together every performer on stage in a joyful, high-energy celebration of music and community.

Thank you to all students, staff, families, and supporters who made the evening possible. Your encouragement continues to light the way – both softly and loudly – for music at Kilbreda College.
