Year 12
As we approach the end of Semester 1, it has been encouraging to see so many students making productive use of the Library during study periods and after school. Students have been working both independently and collaboratively, demonstrating a strong commitment to their learning and preparation for upcoming assessments.
We are also grateful to the many staff members who continue to make themselves available for additional support. The valuable learning conversations taking place between students and teachers are helping students clarify concepts, build confidence and develop effective study habits. As assessment deadlines draw closer, we encourage all students to use their time wisely and remain focused on their academic goals. A useful guide is for students to complete approximately three hours of home study each evening, ensuring they are consistently reviewing, consolidating and extending their learning.
On 14 June, students will complete their first external assessment, the General Achievement Test (GAT). This compulsory assessment is undertaken by all students enrolled in a VCE or VET Unit 3/4 subject. The GAT consists of two sections, separated by a lunch break. Students will be permitted to leave the College during the lunch break, provided they follow the usual sign-in and sign-out procedures through the Front Office.
The upcoming holiday period provides an excellent opportunity for students to pause, reflect and evaluate their progress throughout the semester. Taking time to identify strengths, areas for improvement and goals for Semester 2 can help students return refreshed and ready to achieve their best possible results.
In our most recent Pastoral lesson, Ms Sarah Chuck delivered an engaging presentation on the importance of intrinsic motivation and grit. Students explored the idea that success is often built on persistence, effort and a willingness to embrace challenges. While motivation can fluctuate, developing grit enables individuals to continue working towards their goals even when tasks become difficult or conditions are less than ideal.
As we move into Semester 2 and the colder winter months, students will have many opportunities to put these qualities into practice. We encourage all students to embrace the principles of G.R.I.T.:
G – Growth
An active mindset focused on personal development, learning from mistakes and embracing challenges as opportunities to improve.
R – Resilience
The ability to recover from setbacks, overcome obstacles and adapt positively to change.
I – Initiative
The self-motivation to take action, seek opportunities and engage fully in learning without needing constant encouragement.
T – Tenacity
The determination and perseverance required to stay focused on long-term goals and continue striving for success.
By demonstrating these qualities, students can continue to build the skills, habits and mindset needed to achieve their personal and academic aspirations throughout the remainder of the year.
